Mounted and framed original postcard (Marie Studholme, dated circa 1904).
Marie Studholme was one of the most photographed stage beauties of the late 1800s and early 1900s. Her first stage performance was in 1891 at the Lyric Theater in London and other minor roles followed. In 1893, while performing as Rhea Porter (a journalist) in the two act musical comedy Bound Morocco at the Shaftesbury Theater, she put her first husband and fellow cast member Gilbert Porteous. The same performance secured the attention of the great actor / manager George Edwardes. Towards the end of her career, in 1914, she was besieged by her home-town fans at the opening of the Bradford Alhambra music hall.
